Creating Tomorrow's Leaders
Programs in STEM and Business allow students to become budding entrepreneurs, experts in emerging technology, and curious thinkers prepared for the demands of today's industries and scientific disciplines.
Taught in module format, STEM & Business Labs require a term-long commitment and meet after school, ensuring that students with a broad range of interests can engage in all of their passions throughout the year.
STEM Lab: Practical Learning on the Cutting Edge
STEM Lab combines the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into a set of tools for use in real-world applications. Through project-based learning, the Lab creates a space dedicated to scientific thinking, creative expression, and technological exploration. Incorporating discussions of technology, experimentation with gadgets, and excursions to hackathons and industry sites, we will expand upon the science and math studied in classrooms and begin to operate as engineers.
Alternating between learning days and project days, students receive a comprehensive exposure to relevant engineering topics while developing individual and small-group projects. Projects focus on the real-world needs of the students, the school, Nassau and The Bahamas, or the whole world. At the end of each term, students present their solutions to their classmates and the greater school community.
STEM Lab dives into design and construction topics in the first term, focusing on mechanical and civil engineering. Students then explore programming and electronics in the second term, with a study of computer science and electrical engineering. Finally, the program combines everything we have worked on with a larger engineering project in the third term and participate in an external engineering competition where we present our final prototypes.
Business Lab: Encouraging Entrepreneurship
Business Lab modules cultivate entrepreneurial skills, teamwork, creativity. Students explore real world business scenarios, learning how to creatively problem solve.
Throughout the year, students work with small, medium and large scale enterprises and go on to start their own business ventures.
The module format allows students to focus on what areas of business and entrepreneurship they are most interested in. Recent modules have included: The Business of Fashion, Publishing, The Business of Sports, and others.
