Our English curriculum framework covers knowledge, skills, and understanding in four strands: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

We are committed to promoting a love of reading amongst our learners from an early age. Building upon our comprehensive phonics and early reading program in the EYFS, reading is built into every school day. Students learn how to interact with and respond to a range of information, media, and texts.

Our students become confident communicators, and see themselves as readers, engaging with a range of texts for information and for pleasure – including texts from different times and cultures. Our curriculum also builds to allow students to feel comfortable using the written word clearly and creatively for a range of different audiences and purposes. 

Our Windsor mathematics curriculum blends independent practices with the Singapore Math method. The Singapore Math method is focused on mastery, which is achieved through intentional sequencing of concepts. Some of the key features of the approach include the CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) progression, number bonds, bar modeling, and mental math.

Instead of rote memorization, students learn to think mathematically and rely on the depth of knowledge gained in previous lessons. An attitude that math is important and approachable is also essential. Students perform at a higher level when their potential for understanding and success is assumed.

Windsor aims to create global citizens, and we place a strong emphasis on the study of humanities – academic disciplines that study human culture.

By studying the three main subject areas of Geography, History, and Bahamian Social Studies, our students grow to understand where we have been in order to help envision where we are going. Through the study of Humanities, our students use critical thinking to make connections, while developing a solid foundation for innovation.

The Primary Science curriculum is presented in four content areas: scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry, and physics.

Scientific enquiry objectives underpin biology, chemistry, and physics, which are focused on developing confidence and interest in scientific knowledge. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also incorporated. This aspect of the curriculum helps learners develop a life-long curiosity about the natural world and enables them to seek scientific explanations to the phenomena around them.

Students will think scientifically and develop practical skills alongside knowledge and understanding, which is vital for explaining the world around us. Improving learners’ awareness of science in the world around them develops their sense that ‘science is for me’, helping to connect themselves to the subject. This approach provides them with the knowledge and skills they require to excel at science in later stages of education and to make informed choices, including considering sustainability issues and meeting the challenges facing our environment.

Windsor prepares children to become global citizens, and Spanish and French language learning is an essential part of our curriculum from Pre-Reception (age 3) .

Frequency of exposure to language has been proven as the most effective means of acquisition;  from their earliest stages at Windsor, children have four language sessions weekly. Children are taught in an almost completely immersive manner from the outset and in an engaging, hands-on oral and written approach.

As they enter Year 5, students are given the choice to specialize in either French or Spanish, thereby transitioning to four hour-long sessions per week. This allows our students the opportunity to reach a high level of language competence for their age, as well as develops a very solid basis for their future language learning at Windsor. 

Windsor's Art curriculum gives students a platform to express themselves, sparking imagination, creativity and developing transferable skills. Children explore and push boundaries to become reflective, critical and decisive thinkers. They learn how to articulate personal responses to their experiences. Students develop creative skills that will help with many aspects of their future learning and development. They will see themselves as artists and become increasingly reflective and independent, develop the skills needed to express creative ideas and to communicate visually, and understand their place and the place of others in a creative, innovative and interconnected world.

Our Music curriculum similarly fosters creativity and builds confidence. It helps students to express themselves as they learn to connect with other musicians and with audiences. Students explore music as performers, composers and informed listeners. They make, understand and appreciate music from different cultures, times and places, helping them to develop leadership and collaboration skills as well as self-confidence.
